"You Are What You Drive" Photo Contest

Views: —

Recently I was browsing through the Cyberpunk2077 Discord. I noticed that CD Projekt added a post about a photo contest. The contest rules were to use the latest photo mode additions and the new car colouring feature to capture your V with their car. Obviously they had to match visually. They even suggested adding in some NPCs as well.

The Concept

An idea immediately sparked. A setting…? Slav squad? A car? What type of slav squad?
Now, I’m not great with photography, but I thought I would give it a shot since inspiration struck.

First thing that came to my mind was purple. I didn’t have a great car in mind, nor did I have a save file with decent clothes ready to go, however…

On the Hunt

This is where things started to get tricky—fast. I fell into a rabbit hole of finding a mod that would allow me to buy any and all clothes from the comfort of my apartment, same with cars.
After hours of tinkering, I finally managed to get the mods working on the latest version of the game.

The usage of mods was never prohibited! My understanding is that if they do not affect the photo itself and are not the main subject, they don’t care.

First came picking the clothes—an hour gone. Then came picking the car. The car…
I discovered you could get a coloured version of the Caliburn just by finishing a quest. That cost me another two hours.
So, about four hours already invested in this photo contest (insane, I know), and I still needed a good spot. Another hour went by just cruising through Night City in my new swag. It felt fresh, even though I know that city so well.

The Location

Eventually, I stumbled upon a place I couldn’t just pass up. Turbo looked perfect—it had the neon glow in the background and was the legendary Edgerunners hangout spot.

It instantly felt like the right location to start building the shot.

Of course, it took countless hours of trial and error to position everyone just the way I wanted. Photo mode could definitely be a little better for that. What didn’t help was my utter lack of photography skills. But eventually…

The Final Shot

My final contest submission: V and Songbird with matching purple aesthetics (can you find anyone else?)

Submitting and Waiting

Once the shot was locked in, all I could do was wait. A jury from the CD PROJEKT RED Community Team and professional photographers would select five winners based on creativity and originality. The winners would be announced by September 5th, 2025.

âś… I did everything I could

  • Photo saved as .jpg file
  • Entry submitted to the forum
  • Made the August 11th deadline
  • I poured my soul into it

🏆 What’s Next?

  • 5 winners to be selected
  • Judged by CD PROJEKT RED Community Team
  • Professional photographers on jury
  • Resolution by September 5th, 2025

Final Thoughts

Regardless of the outcome, this was an incredibly fun challenge. It pushed me to explore new features of the game and forced me to think more creatively about visuals and composition. If you’ve ever thought about doing something to take you out of your usual comfort zone, I cannot recommend it enough—you might be surprised by what you can create.

Wish me luck! 🤞

Update: I did not win. The game was rigged from the start.
